January – May are busy months for wildlife on Ascension, as they coincide with land crab spawning, green turtle nesting and often sooty tern nesting. While June - December are quiet months on Ascension in terms of tourism, there is still plenty of activity on the Island in this half of the year. The peak breeding season for frigatebirds is between October and November, during which time male Ascension frigatebirds put on displays to attract potential mates. The waters are also very clear around Ascension from June - December, meaning that they are often good months for snorkelling and SCUBA diving (although it is important to note that the island currently has no hyperbaric chamber). |
