Research carried out by the University of Liverpool in 2015 investigated Alderney’s seabirds and the potential impacts and interactions of marine renewable energy installations. State of the art tagging devices were used to model bird behaviour, which revealed a positive outlook for the seabird population. The birds were shown to spend most of their time near their nests or the coast, meaning they are unlikely to be negatively affected by offshore windfarms planned in the English Channel. More similar studies are required to build on this research, and form a complete picture of the impacts of offshore developments. |
