The Living Islands project brought to life Alderney’s wildlife and historical heritage potential, to help address long term economic problems on the island and create sustainable opportunities for the future. The project established successfully a programme of walks, guided tours, boat trips and even all-inclusive holidays, and restored many areas of historical interest such as Cambridge Battery at Fort Tourgis. The funding for the project ended in 2015, and the initiative is now being taken on by the States of Alderney as part of Visit Alderney.

Fort Tourgis was built in 1855 to defend Alderney's breakwater
