The Environment Charter for the Falklands (an initiative spearheaded by FCO and UKOTCF) was signed in 2001 by the Falklands Islands Government and Minister of the UKOTs. Since then, biological conservation work has been guided by the Falkland Islands Biodiversity Strategy 2008 – 2018 (supported by the Falkland Islands State of the Environment Report 2008) alongside other policy documents such as the Falkland Islands Development Plan that aims to facilitate sustainable future physical development of the Islands. In 2014, Falklands Conservation completed a review exercise (funded by the Darwin Initiative) that evaluated the state of all biodiversity action planning with the Falkland Islands to date.
