Between 1734 and 1834, plantations on Grand Cayman were worked by a population of around 900 slaves. Many reminders of the legacy of slavery can be seen in the Caymanian landscape. A well-preserved example of a ‘slave wall’, which are believed to have been constructed by plantation slaves and functioned either as defences or property boundaries, can be seen at Drummond’s Wall in Bodden Town.
