Introduction

The main island of Anguilla (18°15′N 63°10′W) measures 16 mi (26 km) by 3.5 mi (6 km). It is located in the eastern Caribbean, to the east of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, and just to the north of Saint Martin/Sint Maarten, from which it is separated by the Anguilla Channel. This makes Anguilla the most northerly of the Leeward Islands. The islands of Anguilla plus the French-Dutch island of St Martin/Sint Maarten and French island of St Barthélemy are sometimes collectively referred to as the Anguilla Bank.
