The Protected Areas are very important in safeguarding critical habitat.  Two of the salinas on Grand Turk are now included in the protected areas legislation.  Red Salina and Town Salina, in the heart of Cockburn Town, Grand Turk, are important for a variety of resident and migratory waterbirds, and provide fantastic bird-watching opportunities. It is recognised that other salinas need protection also.
