The Greater Antillean bullfinch (shown here) and the thick-billed vireo sub-species are endemic (ie occur nowhere else in the world). This bullfinch is found only on the islands of Middle and East Caicos. It depends on tropical dry forest and scrub, one of the rarest and most threatened ecosystems on earth. The vireo also depends on this ecosystem, although is more widely found in the islands.
