Voted as one of Lonely Planet’s ‘Top Ten Best Travel’ for 2016, St Helena is set to become a favoured ‘off the beaten track’ destination. With the recent development of an airport, the decrease in travel time, from a 5 day voyage on the Royal Mail Ship St Helena to a 5 hour flight, will make the island more accessible to the world. St Helena Airport was certified in May 2016 and  St Helena Government signed an agreement on 21 July 2017 for SA Airlink to provide a scheduled commercial air service between St Helena Airport (HLE) and OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, with a stopover at Windhoek International Airport in Namibia (a flight time of approximately 6 hours and 15 minutes).
