An ambitious project is underway to construct a new harbour at Tedside, and a new access road to Adamstown. It is anticipated that the new harbour will enable more visitors, especially cruise ship passengers, to land on Pitcairn, and thus boost the economy. The funding body, UK Government's Department For International Development (DFID), has given assurances that the environmental effects of the new work have been assessed and adverse impacts avoided.
