Cruise ships visit Pitcairn from about October to March, to avoid the typhoon season further northwest in the South Pacific. The Claymore II, a combined freight and passenger ship, is another way of visiting. In addition, private and charter yachts also bring visitors to Pitcairn. The income from tourism, through sales and accommodation income, is very important for the Pitcairn economy. It is anticipated that the new harbour and enhanced wildlife tourism facilities will increase visitor numbers.
Islanders gather prior to taking the longboat out to meet a cruise liner.
