Bird diversity is low but highly specialised (e.g. only 4 land bird species on Henderson but all of these are endemic at species level, one of which, the flightless Henderson rail "chicken bird" Porzana atra, is one of the few remaining rails extant on Pacific islands. The other endemic birds are the Pitcairn warbler, the Henderson fruit dove, the Henderson lorikeet and the Henderson warbler.
