Invasive species: Feral animals, such as pigs, goats and rats, have degraded areas of native vegetation and destroyed seedlings, while invasive floral species, such as the purple allamanda Cryptostegia madascariensis, are smothering native plants. This problem was exacerbated by the necessary abandonment of livestock due to the volcanic eruption. The arrival of the chytrid fungus is threatening the critically endangered mountain chicken.
