The Montserrat oriole Icterus oberi is found nowhere else. Its main population was in the forests around the Soufriere Mountain, which were destroyed by the volcano. The remaining population in the Centre Hills is being actively conserved. The population (of around 1000 individuals) is adversely affected by volcanic ash fall, drought, and predation by rats.
