Jersey has ancient origins which can still be witnessed on the island today. During certain time periods (glacial maxima – when water is locked into ice-caps), Jersey would not have been an island surrounded by sea. It would instead have belonged to a landmass reaching from the coast of modern day France to a deep river (the lower continuation of the Seine), in the location of what is now the centre of the Channel. The Ice Age Island Team, in partnership with Jersey Heritage and others, are studying new and old sites from the island’s Ice Age past. Research, through archives and in the form of archaeological digs, will allow a more complete understanding of the island’s prehistoric occupation.
