Threats / Problems / Issues

Of the introduced plants, those generally considered to be the most harmful invasives include calafate Berberis buxifolia, gorse Ulex europaeus, creeping thistle Cirsium arvense and spear thistle Cirsium vulgare. These species are widespread across the islands and both outcompete the native flora and also cause issues for farmers by contaminating sheep’s wool and devaluing it.
