Several beaches in the British Sovereign Base Areas (SBAs) include nesting sites for loggerhead and green turtles. The SBA authorities, in partnership with local volunteer groups, carry out monitoring and protection of these beaches.  Turtle conservation programmes have been running in the Eastern and Western SBA since 1997.

Loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta) swimming.  Green and loggerhead turtles have been legally protected in Cyprus since 1971.
