Notably, large areas of high-value mangrove have been cleared for the development of beach resorts on Grand Cayman. To meet demand for land, some Protected Areas have also previously been degazetted to facilitate development. Other areas of high ecological value are gazetted as road corridors and are therefore liable to future disturbance.
