The BVI National Parks Trust (NPT), recently renamed as the National Parks Trust of the Virgin Islands, was founded in 1961, with a mandate to serve as the custodian of the territory’s national parks, more than two thousand acres of property and wildlife habitats. The NPT is entrusted with the preservation of the BVI'’s national heritage. The twenty-one areas managed include terrestrial and marine sites, both natural and historical, such as Gorda Peak NP, Sage Mountain NP, the Wreck of the RMS Rhone, the Sugar Mill at Mount Healthy and the Copper Mine on Virgin Gorda. |
