Feral donkeys Equus asinus roam Ascension, and unfortunately act as vectors for seeds from invasive plants. They eat the seed-pods of the Mexican thorn and, being free to move around some areas of the island, they spread the seeds. This results in the colonisation of the Mexican thorn into new areas.
