In 2014, the AIGCD set up the first international marine turtle internship programme in order to allow monitoring and conservation goals to be met. The summary report produced by the 2014 turtle conservation intern team can be seen here. Furthermore, through a Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) funded studentship, a student based at the University of Exeter will investigate the predicted impacts of climate change upon Ascension’s green turtle population. It is predicted that the greatest impact will be at nesting beaches for example through sea level rise which will cause a loss of habitat.
