Ascension Island offers much for visitors to see and do. The huge variety of natural and cultural features of interest can be seen in previous sections of the Ascension Virtual Tour. English Bay is a popular beach for swimming and is only 15 minutes from Georgetown by car. This beach is great for snorkelling and observing Ascension’s smaller tropical fish. A quieter beach which is also very popular is Comfortless Cove, named for the fever-stricken sailors that were quarantined on Ascension around the 1830’s to 1870’s.
