Introduction

Being volcanic in origin, with its last eruption believed to have occurred around 700 years ago, the ecological landscapes of Ascension vary from extensive, barren lava-plains to the densely-vegetated Green Mountain, the island’s peak that dominates the landscape and which is also a National Park. The climate is sub-tropical with temperatures ranging between 20-31°C.
