Ascension’s beaches host several sea caves, one of which is found close to the Ariane Tracking Station in the north-east of the island. This nameless cave sports an incredible 'swimming pool' within the lava field as a result of the roof collapsing. The Water’s Edge Sea Cave south-east of the airstrip contains “pseudokarst stalactites” which consist of sea salt and which are formed by sprayed sea water. Thanks to algae, they can sometimes be an eye-catching green colour.
