Features of Natural Interest

As a young volcanic island, Ascension has an interesting geology. Light trachyte rock types are predominantly found in the east of the island and form Green Mountain’s dome. A barren lowland plain in the west of the island is composed of younger, red basaltic rocks that that are infiltrated by black lava flows.
