Xiphopteris ascensionense is a small fern that is found at present in two very distinctive habitats. It occurs on the damp, exposed upper banks on the southern side of Green Mountain. Whilst this was the original habitat, the fern has successfully colonised the trees in the man-made cloud forest which is predominantly found on the highest slopes of Green Mountain.
