The territory of Ascension has 25 vacscular plant species believed to be native to the Island. Ten of these are endemic plants, although three are believed to be extinct and the remaining seven are on the IUCN’s Red List of Threatened Species. The seven remaining species are the Ascension Island parsley fern Anogramma ascensionis, the Ascension Island spleenwort Asplenium ascensionis, the Ascension Island spurge Euphorbia origanoides, the fern Pteris adscensionis, the fern Ptisana pupurascens, the grass Sporobolus caespitosus and the fern Xiphopteris ascensionense.
