Introduction

Lying at the southern edge of the English Channel, Alderney is an archipelago of islands located 60 miles from the south coast of Britain and just 8 miles from the Cotentin peninsula in Normandy. The third largest of the Channel Islands, the main landmass of Alderney is 3 miles long and 1.5 miles wide and has a population of approximately 2,000 people. Alderney is part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey, but it is self-governing and has its own assembly, the States of Alderney.
