The remnants of Victorian era fortifications can be found across Alderney, including a line of 13 forts and an impressive breakwater measuring 3,000 feet. Work began on the breakwater in 1847 and it was completed in 1864. It still stands today, and is clad to protect the Victorian structure from storm damage.
